Lining of clay subgrades
Swelling may be created in clay subgrades by increased moisture content – a swelling that can cause damage to nearby structures such as road pavements, drainage canals and utilities.
Lining with HDPE Geomembranes enables the clay to maintain a constant moisture content and thus prevent its swelling. The road quality increases, and maintenance cycles are improved.
After processing the clay to the desired moisture content, HDPE Geomembranes are installed both over the horizontal subsoil and in vertical barrier ditches. The lining on the horizontal plane will prevent the vertical inflow of water from the ground surface or from the asphalt layers. Vertical barrier ditches 2.5 m deep prevent horizontal inflow of water from drainage channels and infrastructure systems.
Clay lining will prevent the formation of damages (cracks, differential sinking and the like) instigated by the cyclic swelling of clay on the pavement’s surface, lengthen the road’s repair and upkeep period and improve its quality.
