Dredging and sludge dewatering - Zikim WWTP

During the institute’s 15 years of activity, sludge has accumulated within the initial sedimentation pools of the Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Facility, taking up about 65% of the volume, thus significantly reducing the active volume of the pools – which in turn shortened the dwelling and sedimentation time of the wastewater and sewage in the facility.
In order to reduce the load on the filtering facility and to improve the water quality, it was required to clean the pools and remove the sludge that had accumulated within them and to reduce the sludge volume according to the minimum provided, without harming the pool’s Geomembranes, without halting the ongoing continuous operation of the Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Facility and without any odor nuisances.
The solution selected for cleaning the submerged sludge from the bottom bed and its reduction to a feasible extent, was a combination of the two technologies offered by Admir Environment:
  1. Sedimentation pumping performed by a DREDGER.
  2. Sludge dewatering be means of Geotubes.


In accordance with the requirements set at the beginning of the project, the whole work process was carried out without disturbing the ongoing continuous activity of the Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Facility and without causing any odor nuisances.

In total, approximately 8,000 m3 of sludge were pumped with a solids concentration of 8%.
